Hi, I have a 08 328i with sport seats. Recently sometimes when somebody sits in the passenger seat an error comes up saying passenger.
BMW X5 owners have reported 6 problems related to front seat head restraint (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2013 BMW X5 1
Warning light on dash that reads 'fault in passenger restraint system affecting airbag, tensioner or belt-force limiter. ' BMW dealer (roadshow BMW / memphis) did replace belt tensioner at a cost to me but the error code remains. The passenger seat mat could cause this problem. Has there been a recall on the passenger seat mat? I feel that this is a safety issue dealing with airbags and seatbelts. The BMW dealer in jackson, ms did replace the driver and passenger airbag under a recall but I am still concerned about the safety due to the 'system malfunction. . . Fault in passenger-restraint system affecting airbag' warning light on dashboard. This warning message and seatbelt warning light remains when car is in motion. I bought the car on March 17, 2015 (33,000 miles) from my sister who bought the car new from the BMW dealer in nashville, TN. The error message was on the dash at that time. The car now has approx 64,000 miles.

I am the owner of the BMW X5 2010 with sport seat, I hardly seat any passenger in there, and a couple months ago the passenger seat trigger the screen to show message of restrain airbag error on screen, however I though this have something to do with the airbag recall, I diagnose my car with my mechanic, the conclusion was the 'seat mat sensor passenger defective', this car as your recall at the botton shows that was a previous recall with this type of seat 'sport' same as I have, I call BMW, they said my car is not affected and they can not honor this recall, I hope you get more issues similar so your agency looks into this. Report receipt date: Nov 12, 2013 NHTSA campaign number: 13v564000 component(s): air bags potential number of units affected: 76,565 manufacturer: BMW of north America, llc.

Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2009 BMW X5 4
My vehicle is BMW X5 30i 2009 model year. I suddenly had an error message on the dashboard screen saying 'pass restraint system faulty'. Dealer checked the problem and stated that this will not engage front passenger airbag and seatbelt restraint system if not fixed. Asked price was $1800 and paid $1500. Absurd price and should be covered by warranty -- its a safety system! I found out that there was an identical NHTSA recall on the same issue with other BMW vehicles just one or two years before this model year. The NHTSA recall code of that recall is 08v384000. I usually ride the car alone and have occasional passenger and never had any heavy load on the seat.

While driving on a freeway more than a week ago suddenly the airbag and restraint malfunction appeared for no valid reason. The next day my wife heard a loud metallic rub sound and park brake malfunction appeared. Searched online but no recall for this kind of problems for my X5 but it looks like its very common for Bmws. Need help!pls!thank you and more power!.

Front Seat Head Restraint problem of the 2008 BMW X5 6
When a people seat on the passenger seat, the light 'airbag of the passenger seat is off' is on. And the led panel shows 'restrain system malfunction'. I get my car checked at the dealership, they said this is due to the fault of the sensor in the seat and will make the airbag not deploy in an accident. Actually, this problem has been there for a while but only happen occasionally (one time a month), and can be solved by change sitting position a little bit. When I checked in the service, nothing wrong was found. He said the same problem exists in older models (e. G. 2005, 2006), which are in the recall list of BMW. But mine is not in and I need to pay $1400 to get it repaired. I think this is a really important issue since it disables the airbag, which is the most important safety equipment. My car is in a very good condition and serviced regularly. There is no reason it faults in such a low mileage and age. Many users in the BMW forum has the same issue, but is under risk or got to pay for the repair. I hope BMW can take care of this issue to recall the cars that are potentially in risk.
